Medical, nursing and other roles
Requirements for health practitioner roles
Our health practitioners in public health work in multidisciplinary teams under the Health Practitioner (HP) classification. You’ll need specific qualifications, skills, and experience for these roles.
Entry level roles and qualifications
Most public health practitioner roles commence at Health Practitioner Level 3 (HP3). At this level, you use your skills and knowledge to work safely and independently.
Some public health services also offer roles at HP1 and HP2 levels.
- HP1 (cadet or trainee) roles – for students studying to become a health practitioner.
- HP2 roles – for some technical positions for people with a diploma, associate or advanced diploma, or similar qualification.
Growing your career
To move into senior roles, you’ll need to apply for positions at higher HP levels when they are open.
Public and population health professionals also take on leadership roles, such as public health unit directors. Many health managers and executives also have public health qualifications and experience.
