What we do
Our public health professions provide a range of services, including population level health promotion, protection and prevention. We’re also known as population health or preventive health.
We help:
- Prevent and lower the risk of diseases related to our lifestyles, like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer
- Keep communities safe from infection diseases and other health risks in the environment
- Help people to make healthy choices
- Keep Queenslanders healthy now and in the future
Your role
As part of a public health team, you might:
- develop policies to make health care fair for everyone
- create programs that teach people about staying healthy
- support people in making healthy choices about food, exercise, smoking and getting vaccinations
- work in screening programs to find diseases like cancer early
- respond to health risks like disease outbreaks and pandemics, climate change and natural disasters
- monitor water and air quality to keep communities safe
- collect information on mosquitos and help to control them
- use data to track health trends and improve programs.
