Health information managers have a range of responsibilities, while clinical coders focus on medical coding.

Health information manager

Our health information managers (HIM) look after patient health information and make sure we have access to systems that support patient care.

In this role, you’ll:

  • work with electronic health records and health information science
  • understand healthcare language and classifications
  • analyse data and recommend ways to improve our services and care
  • make sure we follow laws and ethical practices.

Clinical coder

Our clinical coders (CC) assign medical codes to information and events in patient health records.

The codes help us:

  • plan and manage patient care and resources
  • compare our performance with other organisations
  • do research studies.

They have a broad knowledge of healthcare language and international clinical codes.

Roles in health information management

We have a range of roles in health information management, including:

  • health information managers

  • clinical and medical coders, educators and auditors
  • data managers, analysts and coordinators
  • documentation specialists
  • research assistants and officers
  • product and systems analysts.
