I worked in three centres during my time as a Northside BPT. Most time was spent at the Prince Charles Hospital as SHO and early registrar. The Prince Charles Hospital SHO programme offered me many experiences that I wouldn't get elsewhere, including heart and lung transplant and electrophysiology rotations, often with the brightest minds in those fields.
As a registrar, the environment was extremely supportive with a focus on education and work life balance. I was also seconded to Mackay for the first six months of my registrar hood. The SMO and Mackay base they bent over backwards to provide teaching and support to their registrars.
Hi, I'm one of the basic physician trainees at the Rockhampton based hospital where I get to thrive in a collegial and a very supportive environment. What sets this experience apart is that you get to see a very wide variety of patients ranging from your routine case to complex transplant patients and also you get hands on experience with a local seasoned experts here. Apart from the clinical training, Rockhampton offers a lot of opportunities for formal education by weekly case presentations, grand rounds and also consultant LED teaching sessions. Supervisor here are also very deeply involved in each and every trainee and they make sure that we are guided through our learning objectives. They also offer very personalised approach to personal support to each and every trainee which is quite important in such a difficult time of our lives. Very excited about my journey here in the Northside rotation.
My name is Mars Khalil, one of the BPT 3 registrars at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. I moved here about three years ago for this BPT training and have never looked back. I love the area, love Sunshine Coast and have been enjoying my training so far. During my BPT one year was I had numerous subspeciality experiences that allowed me to obtain a vast amount of experience in different fields and then once I was ready to step up as a registrar the process was extremely smooth and was met with overwhelming support from my bosses and SMOs. Frequent teaching and numerous times a week with a particular focus or particular positive in the Wednesday case review teachings where one BPT selected to work through a more complex case to work through the diagnostic dilemmas and really provide their own input about how they would manage the case. I found it was extremely helpful not only for me as a clinician but also for now my coming up clinical examination.
Hi, my name is Marianne. I'm one of the basic physician trainees here at Metro North Queensland Network. I've worked previously at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and currently I'm at Caboolture Hospital as part of my training. Both places have been incredibly friendly and welcoming environments to work in. I've had great exposure to a multitude of different specialties in terms of support from senior colleagues. It's been really incredible in the preparation for exams and I feel really well supported. It's been a great place to work, and I've met some great people.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been here at the Royal. Right from day one my DPE matched me up with someone in my desired area of sub specialty. Being more than just a college supervisor, I was mentored and supported through my basic physician training through success in the exams along with some difficulty, but it was a really good training experience and I've now successfully entered the sub specialty of my choice as a result of the support I've received here at the Royal. The opportunities are endless, from teaching on ward rounds, options to engage in research and education have been really fantastic. The Northside network as a whole has also been a great experience, the Prince Charles, Redcliffe and Caboolture and I genuinely enjoyed my time there. Even more than educational opportunities, I've been so impressed by the support for wellbeing I've received here at the Royal.
Thank you for this opportunity of sharing with you my experience in both Redcliffe and Prince Charles hospitals. Acute terms in Prince Charles Internal Medicine further trained my ability to adapt and manage the acutely deteriorating patient and to make efficient and safe decisions on patient care.
Rotations in general medicine taught me about holistic patient care. Redcliffe Hospital being a secondary centre, I encountered a variety of interesting cases spreading across multiple medical specialties and here too consultants were always very happy to lend a hand.
Both hospitals had consultants and senior registrars who took basic physician training very seriously. In Redcliffe we were scheduled about two hours of written exam teaching a week which encompassed going through college lecture material with sub specialists in the field.
In Prince Charles, clinical examination teaching sessions were factored in throughout the week from bedside short case teaching sessions to public and private long care sessions. Seniors were always happy to discuss further training opportunities and pathways and many opportunities were available to discuss and undertake research projects.
I think the Northside Network is a wonderful place to train.
My advice would be to.
I would definitely recommend.
