The training is a centralised statewide recruitment and selection process. The Australian Rheumatology Association Queensland (ARAQ) Director of Clinical Training and Rheumatology Directors of Queensland Hospitals with accredited advanced training positions coordinate the process.
As a Rheumatology Advanced Trainee, you’ll be a trainee registrar of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Successful applicants are selected and appointed by a recruitment panel considering training requirements, facility preferences and clinical workforce demands. The training program emphasises statewide consistency and quality, in association with trainee equity, flexibility and choice.
The network also considers applications for part-time training.
Eligibility
To apply you must:
- hold current general medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- hold registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- have completed or in be the process of completing RACP clinical examination.
Applying
You can apply for the Queensland Medical Rheumatology Advanced Training Network when you apply for the RMO campaign. Applications for the campaign are open Monday 3 June to Monday 1 July 2024.
To be eligible for a position you need to provide details for 2 referees (including a current/recent supervisor) and your referees will have to upload reports. If they don’t, you won’t be eligible for a position.

- Greenslopes Private Hospital
- Princess Alexandra Hospital
- Redcliffe Hospital
- Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital
- Sunshine Coast University Hospital
- The Prince Charles Hospital
- Townsville University Hospital.

Interview and selection
The recruitment and selection process complies with relevant Queensland Health policies including the principles of equal employment opportunity.
Given the competitive nature of the selection process, interested trainees must preference rheumatology as their first preference.
All network sites have involvement in the recruitment and interview process. The interview panel includes representatives from several training sites. The panel decides allocation of registrars to their training site rotations. Positions will be allocated primarily according to ranking following the interview, based on interview performance and quality of application, referee reports and CV.
