The training is a centralised statewide recruitment and selection process for registrar positions across the state. Trainees remain on the program for the duration of two core advanced training years, subject to satisfactory performance. Directors of Queensland’s tertiary hospitals with advanced training accredited positions support the training.
Eligibility
To apply you must:
- hold general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- hold registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- be in the process of completing the FRACP clinical examination both written and practical or successfully completed the examination and basic physician training
- have an interest in gastroenterology.
Applying
You can apply to the gastroenterology training program when you apply for the RMO campaign. When you do, make sure you complete the gastroenterology training program section of the application. Applications for the campaign are open Monday 5 June to Monday 3 July 2023.
To be eligible for a position you need to provide details for 2 referees and your referees will have to upload reports. If they don’t, you won’t be eligible for a position.

Interview and selection
Gastroenterology and hepatology first year interviews of short-listed candidates are held soon after the release of the RACP clinical exam results. The recruitment and selection process will comply with relevant Queensland Health human resource policies including the principles of equal employment opportunity. Individual training facilities will contact and interview second year trainees.
The selection process will be an in-person panel interview with the directors or their delegates of each facility. Interviews will be awarded after CV assessment. CVs are assessed using a validated tool. The tool assesses items from the CV and the written assessment, including:
- undergraduate achievements
- postgraduate degrees and qualifications
- presentations
- publications
- quality improvement
- commitment to gastroenterology.
It also assesses other significant achievements.
Positions will be allocated primarily according to ranking after interview with consideration of the CV and referee reports, and other mitigating circumstances.
