Cardiology Advanced Training in Queensland is entered into via a centralised Statewide recruitment process. Senior Cardiology Clinicians from each of the Queensland tertiary hospitals with advanced training accredited positions, support the selection process.

During the training, you’ll be an advanced trainee of the RACP and do the following at your hospital:

  • provide high quality inpatient and outpatient medical services within the cardiology department
  • provide high quality consultative services to other departments
  • support the professional development of junior medical staff.

You may also:

  • work on an after-hours roster
  • undertake a research project
  • rotate between more than one hospital
  • provide outreach services Complete your training according to the guidelines of the RACP and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ).

You can apply for the Queensland Cardiology Advanced Training Pathway when you apply for the RMO campaign. Applications for the campaign are open Monday 3 June to Monday 1 July 2024. We won’t accept late applications.

Before you apply, make sure you read the role descriptions for training first year [PDF 205.85 KB] or training second and subsequent years [PDF 205.84 KB].

When you apply, select 'Cardiology (AT)' as your preferred sub-specialty at Step 10. You'll also need to preference up to 5 hospitals you'd like to work at. Only preference hospitals that you’re willing to work at. We recommend you use all 5 preference options and indicate hospitals you have interest in if you don’t get a position in your first preference.

You can do your Queensland Cardiology Advanced training at the following hospitals:

  • Cairns Hospital
  • Gold Coast University Hospital
  • Mackay Base Hospital
  • Princess Alexandra Hospital (includes accredited rotations to Ipswich Hospital, Logan Hospital and the Mater Hospital)
  • Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
  • Sunshine Coast University Hospital
  • The Prince Charles Hospital
  • Townsville University Hospital

Interviews and selection

The recruitment and selection process complies with relevant Queensland Health human resource policies including the principles of equal employment opportunity. The Oversight Committee reviews all applications to the pathway. The committee carefully scrutinises such matters as employment history, cardiology exposure, referee reports, interpersonal skills, teamwork capacity, research performance, higher degree attainment and community contribution to determine eligibility and suitability of applicants for appointment to pathway positions within Queensland Health.

Following shortlisting, the selection process will include a formal panel interview with Senior Cardiology Clinicians from training centres around the state along with a Senior Administrative expert. Positions will be allocated according to performance during interviews and the overall strength of the candidate’s application.
