Background

In September 2005 a group of passionate rural health clinicians and advocates met in Roma to share ideas about how to:

  • design a dedicated rural training pathway
  • improve rural medical recruitment, training and support across Queensland.

The result of their discussions was the Roma Agreement. The goal of the agreement was to build a sustainable training program and career pathway that meets the needs of rural and remote communities.

Two years later, in 2007, the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway began.
