About the workshop

Our clinical rural skills enhancement (CRuSE) workshop will prepare you for your rural placement. It'll give you a better understanding of what healthcare is like in a rural setting.

You'll learn about:

  • what is and isn’t in your scope of practice
  • common things you’re likely to face
  • providing emergency care with reduced resources
  • caring for patients with specific needs, like children and pregnant women
  • leadership, teamwork and effective communication in a crisis
  • where to find support and resources to help with patient care
  • how to get help from local and remote experts.

The workshop includes an online module, followed by a one day face to face workshop in Brisbane or Townsville.

You'll be taught by experienced:

  • rural generalists
  • emergency medicine specialists, registrars and nurses
  • midwives.

There aren’t any formal assessment activities, and you’ll get a statement of attendance at the end of the program.

Who can attend

This workshop is free for junior medical officers completing a rural generalist term through the Queensland Country jDocs program.

If there are spaces left, medical officers not on the jDocs program can also attend. You'll need to pay a fee and answer some additional questions to check the workshop is suitable for you.

Registered nurses who work in rural settings can sometimes observe the workshops. Contact CRuSE@health.qld.gov.au for more information.
