Your wellbeing

We offer a range of support to help keep you healthy and well during and after training.

Working as a rural doctor can be rewarding and challenging. It’s important to care for your physical, mental and emotional health.

We want to hear from you about your wellbeing

We also encourage you to support your peers and colleagues.

We want to hear from you about your wellbeing, and any ideas you have that can help us improve the support we offer. You can send these to our team at rural_generalist@health.qld.gov.au.

How keeping yourself well supports your patients

In May 2019, the Queensland Clinical Senate held a meeting on 'Health and wellbeing of the workforce'. They noted a clear link between the health of patients, and the wellbeing of their clinicians.

They set out 5 principles of wellbeing for clinicians that you can follow in your role as a rural generalist. You can learn about these in their statement of principles and actions [PDF 162 KB] on the Clinical Excellence website.

Embracing being vulnerable

Everyday work as a rural generalist can involve uncertainty and risk.

It’s ok to have strong feelings and emotions about your experiences, and it’s important to embrace them. This might mean showing people how you feel and being vulnerable.
