To apply for an internship through our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Intern Allocation Initiative you need to be both:
- of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both descent or accepted as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both by the community where you live
- Group A or B applicant.
You’ll also need to provide the following supporting documents in addition to other documents outlined in our application information.
If you’re of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both descent or accepted as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or both, you’ll need to provide either:
- a signed statutory declaration [DOCX 538.53 KB]
- a confirmation of acceptance by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community you live in.
If you provide a confirmation of acceptance it should be from an incorporated community organisation, association or body. The confirming organisation must have with a majority of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders in leadership and exist at the time you apply. You can use an original or notarised copy of a letter of confirmation [DOCX 540.92 KB] or a confirmation you have from another organisation.
In both instances, you’ll also need to provide a statement telling us why you want to work at a particular hospital.
You must get all documents certified as copies of the original by either a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Declaration, Barrister, Solicitor, or notary public.
How to apply
To apply, you must use the online portal. We only accept applications during the campaign dates.
At Step 13 of the application ‘Personal Details’ you need to:
- select ‘yes’ to question ‘Do you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander?’
- select ‘yes’ to ‘Do you wish to apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Intern Allocation Initiative?’
- advise which hospital you wish to work at, please choose the hospital you selected first in the preferences section of the intern application.
After applications close, you’ll get an email that tells you the due date for supporting documentation and how to submit them.
Application outcomes will be available on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
