Visa requirements
Individuals who are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen, will require a visa to work. There are a range of permanent and temporary visa options for doctors, some which are employer-sponsored.
Registration for IMGs in Queensland
You must gain and maintain registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) to work as a doctor in Queensland Health.
There are different registration pathways for IMGs depending on your qualification and you must meet the requirements set out by the MBA within their registration standards.
Your employing HHS can assist you to navigate the initial registration process and support you as you progress through the pathway leading to either general or specialist registration.
For IMGs following the Standard Pathway, many Queensland HHSs are accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) as a workplace-based assessment provider, which enables you to undertake clinical assessment requirements for the pathway while working, as an alternative to the AMC clinical examination.
