You'll consult directly with patients and their legal guardians to provide care. Within your team you'll work collaboratively with oral health therapists and dentists to ensure that patients’ oral health needs are met. Depending on your qualifications you may have the opportunity to provide dental therapy services to adults of all ages. You may also work in management roles.

You'll primarily work in school-based facilities to provide dental therapy services.  These services generally include:

  • oral examinations, oral disease diagnosis and treatment planning
  • X-rays and other diagnostic tests
  • dental fillings
  • tooth extractions
  • cleaning, polishing and scaling
  • preventative treatments such as fissure sealants and fluoride applications
  • oral health advice, dietary counselling
  • oral health promotion and education for groups and the wider community.
